Health Care Aide Week, Nov. 9-13, recognized and celebrated the contributions of Health Care Aide workers provincewide.  BVC Works coordinated a Health Care Aide career fair Nov. 12 on the second floor lobby of the BVC North Campus.  Five employers – Intercare, CareWest, AgeCare, CBI/Aetes, and Calgary Family Services – set up booths to recruit and inform potential new employees.

“This career fair provides an excellent opportunity for students,” said Gail Thauberger, Coordinator, Allied Health and Health Care Aide Program.  “Having the career fair on campus allows students the opportunity, for students that do not have computer/internet access, to apply for jobs directly.”

Around 100 students attended the event to hand out resumes, enjoy cake, and to learn about the different benefits from potential employers in their field.

Two students in BVC’s Health Care Aide program were recognized for their contributions to the program during Health Care Aide Week.

Aron Lantano and Chris Pierson were singled out for their outstanding devotion to their area of study and for their unwavering assistance to other students.  This was a special recognition of students for their contributions in the program.

“The best thing about the Health Care Aide program is the support and encouragement from your peers,” Lantano said.  “Even though they are my competition, I don’t see them that way. We study together; we provide support for each other in class.”
